Frequently Asked Questions

How often should diabetics come for HbA1c monitoring at Klinik Muhibbah?
Every 3 months is the standard recommendation for diabetics, or whenever there is a medication change. Well-controlled diabetics on stable treatment may be reviewed every 6 months. Annual kidney function, lipid panel, and urine microalbumin testing are also important for complication screening.
What HbA1c target should diabetics aim for?
The standard target HbA1c for most adults with Type 2 diabetes is below 7.0% (53 mmol/mol). Some patients — such as the elderly or those prone to hypoglycaemia — may have a less strict target of 7.5–8%. Our doctors individualise targets based on your age, duration of diabetes, and overall health.
What happens if my HbA1c is above target at the monitoring visit?
If HbA1c remains above target, our doctors will review your diet, activity, medication adherence, and current drug regimen. Medication intensification (adding or increasing doses) may be recommended. We follow Malaysian CPG diabetes guidelines to ensure evidence-based management.
