Klinik Muhibbah offers IgE-based food allergy blood testing to identify specific foods triggering allergic reactions. Common food allergens in Malaysia include shellfish (prawns, crab, squid), peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, wheat (gluten), and soy. Unlike skin prick testing, blood IgE testing does not require stopping antihistamines and is suitable for patients with severe eczema or those who cannot undergo skin testing. Results guide targeted food avoidance and dietary management.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between food allergy IgE testing and a skin prick test?
IgE blood testing measures specific antibodies in your blood against individual food allergens — no need to stop antihistamines and safe for patients with severe eczema. Skin prick testing applies allergens directly to the skin and reads the reaction in 15–20 minutes. Both methods are valid; our doctor will advise which is most appropriate for you.
Which food allergies can be tested at Klinik Muhibbah?
Our food IgE panel covers the most common Malaysian food allergens: shellfish (prawn, crab, squid), peanut, egg white and yolk, cow milk, wheat (gluten), soy, and selected tree nuts. Custom panels for less common allergens can be arranged on request. Please call for current panel pricing.
Is food intolerance the same as food allergy?
No. Food allergy is an IgE-mediated immune reaction causing immediate symptoms (hives, swelling, anaphylaxis). Food intolerance (such as lactose intolerance) is non-immune and causes delayed digestive symptoms. Our IgE testing detects true food allergies. Our doctors can advise on management of both allergies and intolerances.
