Hepatitis B Treatment in Johor Bahru
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B is a viral liver infection that affects approximately 3–5% of Malaysians. It is transmitted through blood, sexual contact, and from mother to child at birth. Most adults who acquire hepatitis B clear the infection, but chronic hepatitis B — where the virus persists for more than 6 months — carries a significant risk of liver cirrhosis and liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) if left unmanaged. Malaysia's national vaccination programme has dramatically reduced new childhood infections, but adults should be screened.
Symptoms of Hepatitis B
⚠️ When to See a Doctor
Get screened for hepatitis B if you have not been vaccinated, have a family member with hepatitis B, were born in Malaysia before the universal vaccination era, or engage in activities with transmission risk. Seek urgent care for sudden jaundice, severe abdominal pain, or confusion — these may indicate acute liver failure.
Treatment at Klinik Muhibbah
Klinik Muhibbah provides hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) testing to determine if you have active hepatitis B infection, and hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) testing to check vaccination immunity. For confirmed chronic hepatitis B, we assess liver function through LFT, viral load (HBV DNA), and abdominal ultrasound. Management of active chronic hepatitis B with antiviral therapy and specialist hepatology referral is arranged. We also offer hepatitis B vaccination for non-immune individuals.
