Appendicitis Warning Signs Treatment in Johor Bahru

Tanda Amaran Apendisitis

Appendicitis — inflammation of the appendix — is one of the most common surgical emergencies in Malaysia. It can affect any age but most commonly strikes young adults. The classic presentation is pain that starts around the navel and moves to the right lower abdomen, accompanied by fever, nausea, and loss of appetite. Recognising the warning signs early and seeking care promptly prevents the serious complication of perforation, which significantly increases surgical risk.

Symptoms of Appendicitis Warning Signs

Pain beginning around the navel and migrating to the right lower abdomen
Pain that worsens with movement, coughing, or deep breathing
Fever (usually 38–39°C)
Loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting
Rebound tenderness — pain worse when pressure is suddenly released
Inability to pass gas or constipation preceding the pain

⚠️ When to See a Doctor

Go to the Emergency Department immediately if you have severe right lower abdominal pain with fever, nausea, and loss of appetite — do not eat, drink, or take painkillers until assessed, as these can mask symptoms. Do not delay or try to wait it out. If the appendix perforates, treatment becomes much more complex and dangerous.

Treatment at Klinik Muhibbah

Klinik Muhibbah doctors can assess abdominal pain and, if appendicitis is suspected based on clinical examination and blood tests (elevated white cell count, CRP), will immediately refer to the nearest hospital emergency department for surgical assessment, CT scan, and appendicectomy. We do not delay this referral — suspected appendicitis requires urgent hospital care. We advise patients clearly on the need to go to A&E without delay.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my stomach pain is appendicitis?
Appendicitis typically starts as central abdominal pain that moves to the right lower quadrant (McBurney's point) over 6–24 hours, with fever, nausea, and loss of appetite. Any severe right lower abdominal pain with fever should be assessed as an emergency. Our doctors can evaluate and refer urgently to hospital if appendicitis is suspected.
Can a GP diagnose appendicitis?
Our doctors can clinically assess for appendicitis using abdominal examination and blood tests. If appendicitis is suspected, we arrange immediate hospital transfer for CT scan and surgical consultation. We do not delay this referral — suspected appendicitis is always treated as an emergency.
What happens if appendicitis is left untreated?
If untreated, the appendix can perforate (rupture) within 24–72 hours of symptom onset. A perforated appendix causes peritonitis — infection spreading throughout the abdomen — which dramatically increases surgical risk, complications, and recovery time. This is why recognising warning signs early and going to the emergency department promptly is critical.
