Vitamin D Blood Test in Johor Bahru

Ujian Darah Vitamin D

Vitamin D deficiency is surprisingly common in Malaysia despite abundant sunshine — indoor lifestyles, covered clothing, and sun avoidance all reduce skin synthesis. Klinik Muhibbah measures serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH Vitamin D), the most accurate marker of Vitamin D status. Deficiency is associated with weak bones, muscle pain, fatigue, poor immunity, and increased risk of chronic disease. Early detection allows targeted supplementation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do Malaysians get Vitamin D deficiency despite living in a sunny country?
Many Malaysians have limited sun exposure due to indoor office work, covered clothing (especially long sleeves and head coverings), sunscreen use, and avoiding outdoor activity during peak hours. Dark skin also requires more sun exposure to produce the same amount of Vitamin D. These factors combine to make deficiency very common even near the equator.
What are the symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency?
Mild to moderate deficiency often causes no symptoms. More significant deficiency can cause bone pain (particularly in the back, hips, and legs), muscle weakness, fatigue, frequent infections, and mood changes including low mood. In children, severe deficiency causes rickets. In adults, it contributes to osteoporosis over time.
What Vitamin D level is considered deficient?
Serum 25-OH Vitamin D below 50 nmol/L (20 ng/mL) is deficient. Levels 50–75 nmol/L are insufficient. Optimal levels are above 75 nmol/L (30 ng/mL). Severely deficient patients may need high-dose loading supplementation followed by maintenance dosing. Our doctor will calculate the appropriate dose based on your level.
