Skin Cancer Screening in Johor Bahru

Saringan Kanser Kulit

Klinik Muhibbah provides clinical skin cancer screening — a full-body skin examination by our doctor to identify suspicious moles, lesions, or skin changes that may indicate basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, or melanoma. While skin cancer is less common in darker-skinned Malaysians than in Caucasians, it does occur and can appear in sun-exposed and sun-protected areas alike. Any rapidly growing, bleeding, or changing skin lesion should be assessed promptly. Our doctors assess lesions using standard clinical criteria and refer for dermatologist review or biopsy when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who should get a skin cancer screening at Klinik Muhibbah?
Annual skin checks are recommended for anyone with many moles, a previous history of skin cancer or pre-cancerous lesions, significant cumulative sun exposure, a family history of melanoma, or immunosuppressed individuals. Any Malaysian with a mole or skin lesion that is new, changing, irregular, bleeding, or itching should have it assessed promptly regardless of age or skin tone.
What are the warning signs of skin cancer to look out for?
Use the ABCDE rule: Asymmetry (one half differs from the other), Border (irregular or jagged edges), Colour (varied shades of brown, black, red, or white), Diameter (larger than 6 mm), Evolution (any change in size, shape, or colour). Any lesion that bleeds without injury, does not heal, or grows rapidly should be seen by a doctor promptly.
Can a GP diagnose skin cancer, or do I need a dermatologist?
Our GPs at Klinik Muhibbah can conduct a thorough clinical skin examination and identify lesions that need further investigation. If a lesion appears suspicious, we will refer you to a dermatologist for dermoscopy examination or arrange a biopsy referral. For clearly benign lesions, reassurance and monitoring can be managed at our clinic. Early assessment is always better than waiting.
