Mpox (Monkeypox) Screening & Consultation in Johor Bahru

Saringan & Konsultasi Mpox (Cacar Monyet)

Klinik Muhibbah provides clinical assessment and screening consultation for mpox (formerly monkeypox) in patients presenting with characteristic rash, fever, or known exposure. Mpox causes a distinctive rash that progresses from flat spots to raised bumps to fluid-filled blisters, typically with fever, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches. If mpox is clinically suspected, our doctors conduct a thorough assessment and coordinate sample collection for PCR confirmation through the Ministry of Health referral pathway. We also provide pre-exposure guidance for those at risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the symptoms of mpox and when should I see a doctor?
Mpox typically begins with fever, headache, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes, followed 1–5 days later by a distinctive rash that progresses through stages: flat spots, raised bumps, blisters, and scabs. The rash often appears on the face, palms, soles, and genitalia. See a doctor promptly if you have this pattern of rash, especially with fever and known exposure to a confirmed case.
How is mpox diagnosed in Malaysia?
Mpox diagnosis requires PCR testing of a swab taken from a skin lesion. Our doctors conduct the clinical assessment and, if mpox is suspected based on clinical criteria, initiate the MOH notification and referral pathway for sample collection and PCR confirmation at the designated laboratory. PCR results typically take 1–3 days through the MOH system.
Is mpox dangerous and how is it treated?
Mpox is usually self-limiting and resolves within 2–4 weeks in most healthy individuals. Treatment is primarily symptomatic — pain management, wound care for skin lesions, and monitoring. Severe cases, immunocompromised patients, children, and pregnant women may require antiviral treatment (tecovirimat) arranged through the Ministry of Health. Isolation until all lesions have crusted and healed is essential to prevent spread.
