Genital Warts & HPV Treatment in Johor Bahru

Kutil Kelamin & HPV

Genital warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), the most common sexually transmitted infection globally. In Malaysia, HPV is widespread, and certain high-risk HPV strains (HPV 16 and 18) are responsible for the majority of cervical cancers — the second most common cancer in Malaysian women. Low-risk strains (HPV 6 and 11) cause genital warts. The HPV vaccine protects against the most common wart-causing and cancer-causing strains and is available at Klinik Muhibbah. GP-level treatment of visible genital warts includes topical medications and cryotherapy referral.

Symptoms of Genital Warts & HPV

Soft, flesh-coloured or pink cauliflower-shaped bumps on the genitals, anus, or surrounding skin
Warts may be single or multiple, small or large
Itching or mild discomfort in the genital area
Bleeding during or after sex if warts are present
Most HPV infections cause no visible warts and are asymptomatic
Cervical abnormalities detected on Pap smear (high-risk HPV strains)

⚠️ When to See a Doctor

See a doctor if you notice any new skin growths in the genital or anal area. All sexually active women should have regular cervical Pap smears (every 3 years from age 25, or as recommended). Seek prompt assessment for any unusual lesions as proper diagnosis is important — not all genital bumps are warts.

Treatment at Klinik Muhibbah

Klinik Muhibbah diagnoses genital warts clinically. Treatment options include topical podophyllotoxin or imiquimod cream applied at home, or referral for cryotherapy (freezing) or trichloroacetic acid treatment at specialist level. Warts may recur as HPV remains in the skin. We offer the HPV vaccine (Cervarix or Gardasil), provide cervical cancer screening advice, and counsel on partner notification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the HPV vaccine available at Klinik Muhibbah?
Yes, Klinik Muhibbah offers the HPV vaccine. Vaccination is most effective before sexual debut but provides benefit up to age 45. Both males and females can receive the vaccine. Call +60 7-251 1162 or book at movo-x.com/kiosk/muhibbah to arrange your vaccination.
Can genital warts be treated at a GP clinic?
Yes, mild to moderate genital warts can be treated at GP level with topical creams (podophyllotoxin, imiquimod). Larger or extensive warts may require referral for cryotherapy or specialist treatment. Our doctors provide confidential assessment and management. All consultations are private.
If I have genital warts, does my partner need treatment?
Your current partner(s) should be informed and offered STI screening and HPV vaccination. Warts may or may not be visible in partners — asymptomatic HPV infection is common. Treatment of warts does not eliminate HPV from the body. Partner notification is important to reduce reinfection and encourage vaccination.
